A million families
In thousands of cottages, houses and on
boats, even, out at sea
Communities working together
Friends loving one another
And learning to believe in each other
With ourselves, we can struggle
Oh, the magic of gentleness
when we truly believe
Paddling and muddling through
On the journey that keeps us free
Lakes and valleys and mountains
Ridges of hurt
Rocks of rough and savage skies and seas
We row through choppy waters
We climb rolling hills
but also sit at the bottom for quiet moments
Reflection and peace
When we lose people, it feels strange that
life continues
That the world moves around the loss
A cosmic blur, practical energy
as people get coffee and journey to work
It can feel like it
but, maybe, it’s not the universe saying, So what?
Something happens to remind us
Like a warm smile, a gust of wind
A laugh, a moment of relief
They are part of the universe’s ball of energy
We are reminded of those we treasure in the
small things
Even though it feels the world is asleep
And that’s what life is - a series of little moments
And the people who love us never really leave
