I don’t think I’d be who I am

if I hadn’t have felt alone

But, then, I also wouldn’t have felt

so alone if I hadn’t have been who I am,

in some ways

I was viewed as an easy target for people to make fun of at school

When someone is mean to you

That says more about them

And not you

Gaslit, fed crumbs

Led numbly, and I convinced myself

willingly (in certain instances) to bed

I’d do the ‘leading’

My fault (not my fault)

So, I’m the one who does the bleeding

for years

They heckled momentarily,

and never thought of it again

While critiquing women’s performances

And spreading, stretching

Breaking my heart

Spitting out

And wondering, what’s next?
